The Full Monty
Incest; they keep on hammering , is a shameful thing - the received thinking being that children borne of such liaisons have more chances than not of having some kind of a mental, physical or emotional handicap. It would appear the supreme custodians of emotional black-mail in our global village i.e. some men of the book have this time around read and re-read their textbooks of genetics, and how well too so that now there's no two ways about this for hets. Have kids with your sis and be sure to raise a family of retards ( in-breeding even among first cousins is said to promote the transmission of certain recessive genetic traits and that is no plain matter).
But what about incest in homosexuality?! Now, that's a totally different bag of cantaloupe. Should this be allowed if it is consensual between two adult same sex siblings who wish to keep a good thing going within the family? :)
Without pointing fingers at any one culture or community in the world where consanguinous union is nothing out of the ordinary; ask yourself this : does a traditional custom/ social practice become acceptable, even when serious fault-lines begin to surface only because there already exists a passionate belief system in its support? Are we saying, consanguinous marriages; ingrained as they are in certain world cultures are pardonable, precisely, because as a people we are most squeamish when it comes to rubbishing someone else's cultural practices or having to re-invent the wheel for them. Standing up for consanguinous unions whilst giving out step-motherly treatment to its conjoined twin - "incest" is ludicrous.
We are NOT for heterosexual incest at all but demolishing gay incest is quite, frankly, barking up the wrong tree. Besides , we should imagine gay incest would find an unusual ally in the homophobic lobby who worry too much all the time about the moral decay of society, as we know it today, through propagation of a gay life-style between strangers in urban sprawls. Gay incest will take care of that worry once and for all.
So are we missing out on something crucial here?
Can the moral of this story then be : Like charity, gayness too should begin at home?!
